Description

Though weak and tired, Bobbie went berserk with joy when he was reunited with his family, and from that day, all of their lives changed. In the weeks and months that followed, his story tore across the country in newspapers and even in a hardcover collection of pet stories. He was the main attraction at an Oregon home-builders convention in Portland, where thousands lined up to pet him, and he starred in a short feature film. Also, the Braziers eventually heard from people along Bobbie's homeward-bound route, places where he'd stopped long enough to recoup, and then he was gone again. These stories verified their thinking. Bobbie had done the impossible. Kent, Judith (2004). Silverton's Bobbie: His Amazing Journey—The True Story. Meanwhile, Frank, Elizabeth, Leona, and Nova spent hours searching for Bobbie, too, frantically calling him over and over, walking the streets, and asking if anyone had seen a stray collie. Unfortunately, they had miles yet to travel before reaching their relative’s house and they couldn’t stand by their car all night hoping Bobbie would return. They got into their car and drove away in tears. a b c Brazier, G. F. (1924). Wager-Smith, Curtis (ed.). "Bobbie - The Wonder Dog of Oregon". Animal Pals. Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: Macrae Smith Company. City of Silverton, Oregon . Retrieved March 26, 2012. Some might suppress this yearning and deaden their souls to its call. But those who do not quench this light within themselves can embark on an incredible journey—a wondrous migration toward heavenly climes. God Calls to YouIn Portland, Oregon, he (Rin Tin Tin) was welcomed as a 'distinguished canine visitor' and met at the train station by the city's school superintendent, the chief of police, and the head of the local Human Society; then he made a statesmanlike pilgrimage to the grave of Bobby the Oregon Wonder Dog, a local legend who was said to have walked from Indiana to Oregon to reconnect with his owners. During the ceremony, according to news reports, "Rin Tin Tin with his own teeth placed the flowers on Bobby's grave and then in a moment's silence laid his head on the cross marking the resting place of the dog who gave his life to give the world another stirring example of a dog's devotion and faithfulness to his master." (Taken in part from Rin Tin Tin by Susan Orleans) Decades later, a 70-foot-long mural of his life was painted on a wall facing the busiest street in Silverton. A life-size statue of Bobbie was also erected on one end, and next o the statue is a replica of Bobbie's fancy dog house.

This arid, elevated area is known for its unique geological features and diverse landscapes. But it wasn’t just the scenery that proved to be challenging. During World War I, dog breeds such as Collies, Retrievers, Sheep Dogs, and Airedale Terriers were used to carry messages between battle stations on the Western Front in Europe. Their intelligence, bravery, and navigational skills while carrying important messages helped save many lives. Characterized by flat, open landscapes, grasslands, and prairies, the Great Plains posed a unique set of challenges for our determined canine. The Braziers widened their search. They scoured the town by car and foot. Flyers were posted around town, and ads were placed in the local newspaper. Calls were made to nearby businesses asking if anyone had spotted Bobbie. No matter your position in your community or in the Church, God will use you, if you are willing. He will magnify your righteous desires and turn the compassionate actions you sow into a bountiful harvest of goodness. We Can’t Get There on Autopilot How encouraging it is to know, though we are imperfect, if our hearts are turned to God, He will be generous and kind and use us for His purposes. Let’s break it down. Dogs have up to 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to a measly 6 million in humans.
