Steve Cropper on the making of "In the Midnight Hour," the chicken-wire scene in The Blues Brothers, and his 2021 album, Fire It Up.

It shows a modern club-like setting where a holographic performance by Michael is projected in front of a long lounge. This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance. When George Michael appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show on 26 May 2004 to promote the album, he performed the song on the show. The song was largely biographical as it was written about his relationship with his long-time partner, Kenny Goss (1996-2009).

Michael had previously found success in the dance clubs with " Monkey" (1988) and " Star People" (1997), and "Amazing" became his third release to reach the top on the Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs chart. The song discusses his partner’s understanding of his physical needs and their resulting open relationship.

It's about that person who's swept in and swept him off his feet, i think it's also singing a little about his boyfriends past. Viktoria Semenenko from UkraineIt's completely stupid to say like his music is about gay relations and this song especially not about. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). This song always makes me think about having a second chance with someone, telling him that you've grown now, and somehow thanking him because of the way that he made you feel once. Yes, in his interview to MTV in 2004 he really says that wrote a song after beginning a new relationship in his life but it was just about surviving.

Come On Eileen" was a colossal '80s hit, but the band - far more appreciated in their native UK than stateside - released just three albums before their split. Love "My Mother Had a Brother" about the tragic suicide of his gay uncle, and of course "American Angel" written for his partner at the time, Kenny.Sheryl Crow's longtime songwriting partner/guitarist Jeff Trott reveals the stories behind many of the singer's hits, and what its like to be a producer for Leighton Meester and Max Gomez. At least that's my interpretation, which I've always linked to someone who was very important in my life.
