In another scene, a boogeyman-type character is about to break into the house, but Creepy Cat sneaks up on him and scares him away. Not only is the titular character visually distinguished from other characters by his shading, hair, lips, and overall size, unfortunately neither Shakespeare nor the illustrator seem wholly prepared for a contemporary conversation regarding racial representation in one of literature’s most infamous depictions of othering. The story is very episodic with each page being a single short that begins to slowly build toward a narrative arc (it is quickly apparent it began as a webcomic), and while it does read as a bit chaotic and jumpy this is only the first volume so it is still finding a story.

But ever since moving in a month ago, Flora has felt watched—revealed to be a strange creature she soon names Creepy Cat, a large white marshmallow-like feline with overblown black pupils and red irises. We also get to meet some of Flora’s friends and the idea that there are other Creepy pets made me squeal in cuteness.Pay the postage costs, (we would advise you get free proof of posting at your Post Office for this).
