About this deal

The Game is Complete and the Contents are Unplayed as the Production Units are still sealed in their Bags. Given that players can loose vast amount of ore into the abyss thanks to sudden unforeseen events or can have their ore constantly stranded at a pithead or stolen or diverted by the other players, it follows that this might take a while.

If the latter then it’s a serious mistake because it is, in fact, one the nastiest, trashiest mass-market games around which, in spite of some flaws, can be a ton of fun to play. The one we used to play instructed players to have the card deck face down first of all so no-one knew what event was coming next and then, on the first reshuffle, to turn it face up so all the players would know what event was in the pipe even if they couldn’t control when it would happen and to keep flipping it round on each reshuffle. The playing board appears to be made of Bakelite and small wooden sticks are used to keep track of your plays. Each card has an event that can be either positive or negative ranging from free transportation for units to one of the foreign ports, to an earthquake that destroys all the units in the warehouse. This illustrates nicely what this game is good at: forcing the players into intricate and difficult balancing acts between competing goals.

So once the ore starts flowing you can take great delight in hiring more lorries than you need and leaving your opponents with ore piling up at their pitheads and grinding their teeth in frustration while they worry about an event card coming up that’ll destroy unsold ore on the board. The game consists of a playing board, 12 mine derricks (2 of each of 6 colours), 6 lorries, 5 barges, 2 ships, 90 pyramids (15 of each of 6 colours), 94 cubes (24 of each of 6 colours), 26 Production Cards, 6 Canal Company Title Deeds, 2 Production Debit Cards, 1 die and paper money comprising sterling and dollars. Although units can be sold at the mine, the low value of these units means this is rarely done, except when a player is short of cash.I have a old 1890 lidded (pewter) German Beer Stein in great condition that belonged to my great-grandfather.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Mine a Million or The Business Game is a 1965 board game for 2-6 players [1] previously published by Waddingtons. Aside from the rebranding, the only difference was that 'The Business Game' came in a smaller box, and the board was folded into thirds rather than in half. The game was designed by the British brothers Peter and Philip Bergner, together with their respective wives Kathleen and Audrey Bergner. Well you could divert some of your ore that’s going overseas for dollars and flog it for a sum of pounds that you don’t really need.

Having a queue of face up events to make it a bit more strategic, for example, or simply reducing the winning post to make the game a bit shorter.
