About this deal

The Dirty Vegan Cookbook, Revised Edition is the all-in-one vegan-style cookbook that makes eating vegan fun, now expanded with new recipes! In sharp contrast to Ella and Anna (in personal style at least), Matt is a tattooed, skateboarding, Ironman. I'm yet to try the recipes but I have so many tagged for trying it would've been easier to mark those I don't want to try! As an established vegan was hoping for a bit more, but there are some recipes here I look forward to trying, and some new ideas. Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you.

For too long, the vegan lifestyle has been seen as limiting–a laundry list of all the things vegans can’t or shouldn’t have.It was changing my addiction from booze and drugs to fitness that got me out of it, and through becoming an ultra-athlete I flipped the vegan switch. In Dirty Vegan, Matt is set a challenge to create vegan food for certain groups of people with specific nutritional needs – a women’s rugby team, OAPs, teenagers and emergency services (mountain rescue). For those who don’t know my story, I grew up in Cardiff with my brothers and my mam and dad, and had a pretty normal childhood, although my eccentricity did surface now and then.

I should mention that I DID find a few recipes that I adapted and have found the way into my diet so it wasn't terrible. Self-styled as "vegan junk food"--healthy vegan food that doesn't skimp on taste--The Dirty Vegan Cookbook is a celebration of all the amazing tastes and dishes available to those on vegan diets. From the ex-presenter of the cult TV show Dirty Sanchez, Matt Pritchard, comes the accompanying book to the BBC's leading vegan cookery programme, Dirty Vegan. I’m a new vegan and I care about eating healthily after following a ketogenic diet for several years. From ‘Deliciously Ella’ to ‘River Cottage Veg’, and Anna Jones’s ‘Modern Way to Eat’ to Yotam Ottolenghi’s ‘Plenty’, our kitchen shelves are packed full of vegetarian and vegan cookbooks, which we regularly plunder to compile our weekly menu.

This week, however, I actually made one of the recipes I’d torn out and it was super easy and so delicious I wanted to share it with you here. For too long, the vegan lifestyle has been seen as limiting--a laundry list of all the things vegans can't or shouldn't have. I was keen to try the jackfruit and red pepper goulash as I’ve had a tin of jackfruit in the cupboard for a while now and I’ve been unsure what to do with it! The pictures are a joy to look at and reading the intros was fun (couldn't read them without Pritchard's voice in my head). This time including chapters such as: Super Quick Midweek Meals, Comfort Food, Classics and Food with Legs (for when you need that extra bit of energy).

From the ex presenter of the cult TV show Dirty Sanchez, Matt Pritchard, comes the BBC’s first ever (and long overdue) vegan cookery programme and accompanying book. I was keen to try the jackfruit and red pepper goulash (which I made with much success last week) as I’ve had a tin of jackfruit in the cupboard for a while now and I’ve been unsure what to do with it!
